Casino (Movie Review)
A casino is a gambling establishment that offers guests the opportunity to place wagers on various games of chance. It also features a variety of entertainment options like music and shows. Its flashy decor and pulsating lights create an atmosphere that is intoxicating and exhilarating. Guests can mingle with other people and enjoy drinks while trying their luck at table games like blackjack, poker or roulette. Unlike Internet casinos, which are often run by third parties, most land-based casino operations are owned and operated by major gaming companies.
There’s one certainty about casino gambling: the house always wins. Every game has a built-in advantage that ensures that the casino will make a profit on each wager. Casinos are careful to make the gambling experience as fun and exciting as possible to encourage players to spend more money. This is especially true for high-stakes gamblers, who are offered extravagant inducements like free spectacular entertainment and elegant living quarters.
Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci team up again in Casino, a gangster drama that follows the rise and fall of organized crime kingpin Sam “Ace” Rothstein (De Niro). Scorsese’s ambivalence about violence is on full display here. The movie has a few hellacious sequences, including a torture-by-vice scene and a popped eyeball shot that had to be trimmed for an NC-17 rating.
