Today, poker is a simple card game with some element of cheating. It was brought to North America by French settlers. Although the game has its roots in ancient China, its origin is not clear.

The first player to bet in a poker game is said to bet. The player who bets first is said to bet, while the player who calls or raises more than the previous bettor is called the “ante.” The third player to bet is known as a “check”. A check means that no one else has bet. The betting interval ends when the last player has raised or if all players have checked.
