Poker

The game of Poker is a game where the highest value card wins. When players have two pairs of kings, they may fold. If the other players have a pair of queens, they may raise, but not if they are bluffing. Players in poker may have anywhere from two to seven players in the table. The bets are placed in front of each player. In the case of heads-up poker, the best player wins the pot.

Players in poker games usually use poker chips. Games with seven or more players should supply the chips. Poker chips are divided into four categories. The lowest-value chip is white. The next highest value is red. There are also blue chips, which are worth ten, twenty or even fifty whites. Each player “buys in” to the game by purchasing chips. Most players buy in with the same amount. While poker has many variations, the following basic rules are generally the same.

The highest ranking hand in poker is the royal flush. It consists of five cards of the same suit, starting with an ace. An ace may be either high or low, but it cannot wrap around a suit of lower rank. A straight flush, meanwhile, is a five-card sequence of all three suits. High cards outside of the straight flush break ties, as well. The other two hands in poker are called the straight and the royal flush.
