When you walk into a casino, you’re immersed in a sensory experience of lights, music, and energy. It’s a manufactured blissful experience designed to attract people and keep them coming back. And even though there are no clocks in casinos (and it’s not recommended you look for one anyway) the dazzling lights and joyful sound of clinking slot machines create an atmosphere that’s almost impossible to resist.

This is what makes the casinos so desirable. While they’re not the best place for gamblers to get rich, they are a fun and entertaining environment that offers everything from food and drinks to entertainment options and a chance to let loose with your friends. And while some people may not have the best gambling habits, most are willing to take a risk for a chance at winning big.

Martin Scorsese does a magnificent job of capturing the essence of Las Vegas in Casino. The movie is almost like a documentary in the way it reveals the mafia’s grip on Las Vegas and its corrupt underbelly. From the way the mob controlled unions and politicians to how huge casino corporations took over the city, Casino gives a detailed account of how the mob was able to control Vegas. And with a cast that features the great De Niro and the sultry Sharon Stone, it’s a compelling watch throughout.
