What Is a Casino?

While Scorsese’s portrayal of the mob in this movie is a little over the top at times, his depiction of the corruption that surrounds the casino industry is spot on. He lays bare the intricate web of power and greed that centers around Las Vegas, with tentacles reaching into politicians, Teamsters unions, the Chicago mafia and the Midwest mafia based out of Kansas City. The film’s many scenes of violence, treachery and avarice are a reminder that not all casinos are friendly places.
